Nelson Mandela may have said those powerful words more than a quarter century ago, but what he said to a raucous crowd of high school students in Boston, Massachusetts in 1990 is just as true today as it was back then. Countless studies have shown the key to success is education, but research also shows minority students from low-income households continue to face significant disparities in access to quality educational opportunities.
According to former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, "low-income students need extra support and resources to succeed.”
Our mission is to help minority students from low-income families achieve Success Through Education Planning and Perseverance. The S.T.E.P.P. Foundation’s goal is to provide resources and guidance that empower disadvantaged students to overcome the obstacles preventing them from achieving their full potential on their journey to becoming educated,
skilled and productive citizens and leaders.
Together, we are focused on supporting students and propelling them toward promising futures. Our Board of Directors is committed to helping our program's participating students achieve success.
The S.T.E.P.P. Foundation and Brand Bank, now Renasant Bank, teamed up in 2017 to create the Barbra Watson-Riley Striving Students Scholarship Program. The program serves more than 40 students.
The S.T.E.P.P. Foundation is proud to partner with Gwinnett County Public Schools to support students and their successful outcomes. Please consider making a donation and contact us with any questions.
